GOD is our Greatest TREASURE

With Thanksgiving and Christmas soon upon us the stores are getting ready for all their sales, and people are ahead of the game this year with shopping for all of their treasures. At Christmas we seem to seek and search for that perfect gift for our loved ones and friends.  We usually put a lot of time and effort into this....that perfect treasure is important to us.  And when we find it, we know.  We can't wait to see the person's face when they open their present.

Over time our store bought treasures become a thing of the past.  Can you remember all the gifts you got last Christmas? Nothing we buy here matches the price CHRIST paid for us on the Cross. HIS redeeming love for us is the treasure we should want.  No other gift that someone can give us comes close.  No other gift can plant itself deep within our hearts and never leave.

I ponder this time of year the journey of the Wise Men guided by the Christmas star to bring their treasures to the Christ child.  For them, their gifts were perfect for a King. Little did they know that in time CHRIST and HIS mercy and love for us would become the ultimate gift.

Our treasures here seem to accumulate over time.....so much so, that we box them up and put them in storage.  But in Matthew 6: 19-21 we are instructed to "not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven....For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Let us keep our gift giving in perspective.....we can still give and still receive the treasures we get. And we can do all of this as an example of our love for one another.  But the greatest gift in history was the tiny baby born in a stable. Let us treasure HIM in our hearts this Christmas.  HE is our gift.....HE is our precious love....HE is our greatest treasure.... and we are HIS.

Deuteronomy 7: 6 "The LORD your GOD has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be HIS people, HIS treasured possession."
